One of the few agricultural species that originated in North America is the annual sunflower (Helianthus annuus).  Sunflowers have simple, hairy leaves. Basically, they are typically coarse plants. Their daisy-shaped blooms appear in a variety of colours, including yellow, orange, red, cream, purple, and bronze, due to various cultivation.

How to Care

Fungal leaf spots, downy mildew, powdery mildew, canker, rust, and downy mildew are all common for this plant. Also look for caterpillars, cutworms, beetles, and weevils as well.
